What would you do with instant wealth?
I remember watching a show on the TV back when I was a little boy. The name of the show was called “The Millionaire”. It was a hit 1950’s TV series where a billionaire indulges himself giving away one-million dollars apiece to persons that he has never met.
There were many things to learn from this TV show. I guess my biggest lesson and take away was related to a quote I read once that said:
“ Wealth was originally perceived as a state of mind, not a condition of the purse". ~Richard Gaylord Briley
Getting back to the story about the TV show called "The Millionaire" actually Mr. Tipton was a Billionaire.
John Bereford Tiptop is a multi-millionaire, a billionaire in the TV series and among the things he does with his money in these episodes is to give away a million dollars to people he didn’t know.
So every week Tipton who is not seen, instructs his assistant, Michael Anthony to go bring the person he chose their check.
The only stipulation is that the person receiving the check must sign an agreement not to tell anyone how they got the money. And then we see how the recipient’s lives are changed.
I think the best part of the show were the lessons us viewers would learn about instant wealth. With this instant wealth came problems, responsibilities and the greed and envy of others. This has not changed today.
In the beginning of each episode the millionaire would tell a short wise sages story. For example the millionaire would send for Michael Anthony at the beginning of each episode and share a lesson.
Here’s one scene:
Michael, Mr. Tipton's administrator reports each morning as Mr. Tipton shares a story or lesson.
Mr. Tipton the Billionaire asks Michael : “Mike do you ever have nightmares”?
Michael replies: “Only after too much curried shrimp I’m glad to say”. (Smiling)
The Billionaire says: “I’ve had one after I woke up this morning”.
Michael says: “Woke up this morning, sir”?
The Billionaire says: “Scientist say there is one moment between waking and sleeping when you can experience a lifetime of emotions. This morning there was one second that seemed like years of terror”.
Michael replied with: “They also say that those who never have nightmares, will never have pleasant dreams either”.
The Billionaire then says: “Well Mike, I must confess I’m glad to be awake now, free of doubt and back to my proper place in time”. As he hands an envelope to Mike containing a million dollar check enclosed saying “Our next millionaire”.
Michael smiles nods respectfully and walks off to his next mission of delivering the check.
It’s crazy, but in most of these episodes the recipient of the check tells someone that they trust about receiving the check. Then the drama begins.
As a child I often wondered what it would be like to be a recipient of a million dollars.
What would you do with a million dollars of tax free money?
When people are typically asked what they would do if their doorbell rang and when they answered the door a person stood there with a tax free check for them for a million dollars. They sounded off with a million things they would do with the voice of an unconscious mindset. Very dangerous and irresponsible in deed.
Well if some of us were asked this same question we would give answers that were similarly the same.
• Help others get what they want.
• Invest in money growth opportunities
• Pay off all my bills to live debt free.
• Pay down their mortgage.
To be honest, most people don’t really do that and don't know what they would do with a million dollars. Why? It’s because they’re asleep. They’re living unconsciously.
